Augmented YANGTZE is introduced as a modern hybrid software instrument, purpose-built to merge the sonic worlds of traditional Chinese instruments with dynamic synthesis. Diving into the Advanced panel, the instrument reveals its layered structure: two layers, each with two sound generators, for a total of four engines running concurrently. Users can mix and match sample engines, synth engines, or a combination, with each generator having its own VCA and each layer its own filter and envelope. The sample engines are stocked with high-quality recordings of traditional instruments like beizlice, erhu, guqin, pipa, xiao, and yangqin, as well as processed and experimental textures. The synth section, including the Simpler engine, is designed to complement these samples, offering additional timbral depth and atmospheric possibilities.

The modulation page provides a flexible matrix for routing LFOs, functions, random generators, and keyboard behaviors to nearly any parameter. Modulation assignments are drag-and-drop, and the bottom bar offers a clear overview of all available modulators and macros. The morph macro can target up to eight parameters, while other macros can each control six, enabling intricate, evolving patches without menu-diving.

The arpeggiator is straightforward but effective, supporting step editing, velocity and gate per step, chord addition, playback direction, time division, swing, and octave switching. Effects are divided into per-layer and global sections: each layer can host two effects (from a pool of 14), while the main output always features delay and reverb.
